  • Modern Technique Unveiled: Learn the fundamentals of Horton, a dance technique created by Lester Horton that lives on today through world-renowned companies like the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. This technique emphasizes precise alignment, grounded movement, and emotional expression. We will also cover some Graham technique, created by Martha Graham.

Workshop Summary:

Week 1
Warm Up Essentials

  • Roll Downs
  • Primitive Squats
  • Flat Backs
  • Laterals
  • Release Swings
  • Leg Swings
  • Deep Lunges

Across the Floor – Triplets, Three-Step Turns, Single-Foot Arch Springs, Horton Skips

Week 2
Review Horton Warm Up Essentials and Across the Floor

  • Warm Up – Introduce Coccyx Balance and Pivotal Descent/Ascent
  • Introduce Fortification 1
  • Across the Floor – Introduce Side Hip Pulls

Begin center choreography

Week 3
Review Warm Up, Fortification 1, Across the Floor

  • Introduce High Lateral and Lateral T

Review and add to choreography

Week 4
Review previous Warm Up and Across the Floor exercises
Review and add to center choreography
