LEARN TO TAP
Intro to Tap danceLab with Meghan Rillamas!
Wednesday January 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th. 7-8pm
Tap is a really fun dance style that can be quickly mastered when you start off with a fundamentals workshop like this. No tap shoes, no problem! We have them for rent ($4) until you become so addicted you purchase your own. Tap training engages the mind, is a great cardio workout (when you get down some basic steps), and a fantastic stress buster – not to mention a truly entertaining art form.
Carve an hour out of your week to do this for yourself.
Welcome to our introduction to tap dance Lab workshop! Over the next four weeks, we will focus on basic terminology, technique, rhythm, phrase connection, and a short combination learned to music. Class will begin with a brief warm up followed by the appropriate technical drills to enhance your tap education. Always remember class is for YOU and we are here to guide your experience. Questions are encouraged and a small notebook is recommended (not required) for reference.
WHAT TO EXPECT EACH WEEK
WEEK 1
Introduce basic terminology of steps, how to create sounds with different parts of the foot/shoe, how to shift weight, and start building sequences to put all into practice, as well as building strength and muscle memory. (Learn warm up and practice drills)
WEEK 2
We build off of the terminology we started previously, review the sequences we introduced last week and introduce more steps to add to your growing vocabulary of Tap moves! This week we begin building a short routine using the steps we’ve learned so far.
WEEK 3
Review and add new steps. Practice putting new movements together. We’ll also review and continue our choreography and demo in smaller groups to identify individual sounds better and build confidence!
WEEK 4
You made it! In our final week, we wrap up this dance Lab by practicing everything we’ve learned so far. Our goal is to send you off – well prepared – on the next leg of your Tap journey.
