Monday August 4, 2008 Good Day Atlanta

For those of you who missed us this morning, Bubba and I were on Good Day Atlanta. In polyester. And 5 inch heels (me). With the popularity of Disco Summer Nights, Bubba and I were invited to do an interview and give a disco dance lesson to Mark and Suchita- which has to have been the highpoint of their morning.

Bubba looked great - he got Suchita to dance with him and she was into it. As they were moving in unison, looking hip and glamorous, I, on the other hand, in shoes I could barely walk in, wearing a vintage corral colored disco dress I had no business being in (at 8am), had to stop the choreography to give Mark a rhythm lesson. "Can anybody learn to disco?" he asks. Seeing my opportunity to speak I said: Absolutely! Well.........

Q: Who can't do the grapevine? Is there anybody out there, on this earth, that can't do a grapevine? A: Yes, there is one person.

And in my television dance debut.... in that sexy dress and painful stilletos.... what should have been my 15 nanoseconds to be discovered and made into a star.... I am dancing alongside a tall man in a suit with a piece of paper in his hand and wires going in and out of both ears, with size 16+ boots, who almost knocked me over, freestyling to the sound of a beat only he was hearing and I didn't know which way to go.

Do I stick with Mark and fumble about while he's plugging the coordinates of the beat into his GPS or do I inch closer to Bubba and Suchita that had it all going on?

Don't get me wrong, Mark "Riverdance" Hughes can throw down with the best of them. He had some hip action that almost knocked me off those ridiculous shoes I was wearing. While Bubba and Suchita were cruising along easy peasy, Mark was happenin. Unfortunately, I wasn't "happenin" alongside of him. But rather in a prolonged state of confusion.

The next time we do that show, Bubba gets Mark. Suchita is mine. I will not wear an $18 polyester dress and the heels are already in the trash. --Ofelia
